This is a FREE event.  All Rotarians are encouraged to attend, and lunch will be provided.
*Note: This is an Awareness and Education event – not a fundraiser.

The event will open at 9:30 a.m., giving attendees time to connect with partners and explore on-site resources. At 10:00 a.m., participants will hear a press conference led by city leaders, highlighting the scope of human trafficking in our region, current efforts underway, and the shared responsibility to protect children and vulnerable populations.

At 10:45 a.m., the program will continue with a panel discussion featuring experts from law enforcement, healthcare, and victim service providers, moderated by Rhonda Kuykendall, MSW, a Rotarian and member of the Texas Human Trafficking Survivor Leader Council. Panelists will discuss what trafficking looks like in real-world settings, what professionals and community members often miss, and how coordinated, trauma-informed responses can interrupt exploitation while supporting victim healing and recovery.

Attendees can engage with a walkthrough exhibit by redM and HPE Avatar, offering an immersive look at how traffickers operate and how awareness, technology, and community vigilance can be leveraged to prevent it. Advocacy and educational resources will be available throughout the event, and a light lunch will be provided.

Let’s demonstrate Rotary’s powerful commitment to this mission by having a large presence on 14 April.

Stan Galanski , Anti_Human Trafficking Chair will be there. Please reach out to him of you have any questions.

Fred Flickinger | Houston City Council District E

Status of the City of Houston and Upcoming Plans in the Clear Lake Area

Jun 15, 2026 11:45 PM

Fred Flickinger was sworn into office on January 2, 2024. He is serving his first term as the Houston City Council Member for District E and brings his skills and experience as both a business and community leader to create lasting change at City Hall.

Fred believes in focusing on the core responsibilities of city government by making public safety a top priority, enhancing flood mitigation, prioritizing infrastructure improvements, and restoring fiscal responsibility. Public safety is the foundation upon which all other aspects of our community are built. By working together to create a safe and secure District E, we can ensure that our neighborhoods thrive, and our families are able to live, work, and play without fear.

Fred is an owner of Flickinger Machine, a family business which has been in operation since 1978. Prior to managing the family business, he was an executive for a logistics corporation for 27 years. Fred’s business experience enables him to bring real work insights and solutions-oriented approaches to city council.

A strong believer in being civically engaged in his community, Fred recently served as President of the Lake Houston Pachyderm Club and spearheaded their voter education efforts. He currently serves on the Senate District 4 Advisory Board to be a proponent of grassroots initiatives. Fred is also a long-time volunteer and supporter of the Prison Entrepreneurship Program which connects business leaders with incarcerated individuals to instill business acumen and provide mentorship.

A proud Houstonian for over 50 years, Fred has been a part of District E since childhood. He grew up in the Sagemont area, lived in Clear Lake and now resides in Kingwood. Fred credits his involvement in the community and local politics for his belief in wanting to affect change. He is committed to prioritizing communication and transparency with all members of the district.

Space Center Rotary Club Anniversary

The Rotary Club of Space Center

Chartered August 6th, 1964

The Rotary Club of Space Center  has an outstanding community service history since August 1964 due to its diversified members, all with a passion for "Service Above Self".  Not only this, but the Club shares a national heritage in that it grew alongside the manned space program located at the National Aeronautical Space Agency’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. The bond between the Club and the Johnson Space Center and the friendship that has developed is one of the Club’s enduring values and a rich heritage.

With honor the Club carries the name “Space Center” and its banner reflects the manned space program. Many of the former and current members were pioneers in the manned space program and several of the earlier astronauts were honorary members of the Club. There is a wealth of experience, abilities, and talents among its members such that long time member and President of the Club (1990-1991) Billy R. Smith said that the Club was coined the name, “The Can Do Club".

According to the Charter Presentation Program, the presentation was held on September 28, 1964 at 7:00 PM at the Houston Yacht Club Shoreacres, La Porte, Texas. Ellis R. Bareiss, Governor’s Representative presided. District Governor Edwin G. Bracher presented the Charter to Ivan E. Brown, President Rotary Club of Space Center. The Rotary Club of La Porte was the sponsoring club.

Our Club held regular luncheon meetings on Mondays at 12:15 pm at the Kings Inn. (Note: Monday was chosen because it was the best day to meet due of the extensive travel done by  the Rotarians who were with the manned space program.  Likewise noon was the best time during the day to meet  since there were standup meetings every day the first thing each morning.  Per  Bob  Wren May 1, 2015.)

Club's Arrangements Committee Anniversary
Aug 27, 2026

We commemorate this date as one step closer to the formation of our Club back in 1964
Congratulations Space Center!

In a letter dated August 27, 1964 to Mr. President from Fred Lane, Arrangements Committee, detailed several things that had to be done. Fred Lane noted that Rotary International had indicated a special interest in the new club due to its location and the type of membership which included Gordon Cooper, one of the original astronauts.

The letter continued with the arrangements noting that each Rotary Club in District 589 would want to participate to the fullest; therefore, each club was asked to contribute $25.00 toward operating items the new club would need, such as Banner, Flag, Bell, Gavel, Speaker’s Stand, Lapel Buttons, and Identification Buttons.

9.11 A Day of Service and Remembrance
Sep 11, 2026

"The nation changed forever on September 11, 2001. Many Americans remember a country before and a country after, and for many young Americans, only a country after. Terrorist attacks causing tragic loss of life at the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in sight of the nation’s capital, and a quiet field in southern Pennsylvania led to conversations and reflection on American identity, patriotism, security, and service that resonate today."
