Eradicating Polio
It's when Rotary members, public health advocates, and all who want a world free from polio to come together, recognize our progress in the fight to end polio, and talk about the actions we need to take in order to end polio for good. In addition to World Polio Day celebration, every year our Club has different fun activities year-round to contribute to the Polio Plus fund. Your donation helps Rotary reach every child with the polio vaccine.
On October 20, 2025 our Club celebrated World Polio Day with a very special presentation by Scott Rainey, PDG and former member of our Club. "...Everything started in 2015 when Ute Schneider, who recently emigrated from Germany, came up with the idea of organizing a motorcycle ride to raise money for Polio Plus. Sheila Franklin, President (2014-2015) of the Memorial-Spring Branch Club supported Ute’s initiative, gracefully. In spite of her language barrier to fully communicate in English at that time, Ute was able to put together the first ride. On November 21st. of 2015, marked the beginning of a fun and meaningful tradition... Since 2024 the Clubs of Space Center and Memorial-Spring Branch are the official organizers. We warmly thank Ute and Chris Schneider for their leadership...."

Eye Clinic in Mexico.
Space Center Rotary Club has partnered with The Guerrero Clinic for over two decades. Several members of our Club have volunteered to their different Clinics. Over 65,000 patients have received high-quality medical treatment. Services include eye exams, eyeglasses, cataract surgery and dental procedures to indigent populations surrounding Guerrero, Chihuahua. Suzi Howe has volunteered for many years. If you want to become a volunteer and/or join Suzi to one of the different clinics, please reach out to her.

On August 12, 2024 our Club presented a donation check of $2,000 to The Guerrero Crystal Foundation.

Clean Water, Sanitation & Hygiene.
In 2025, our Club donated $3,000 to Agua Pura Para El Mundo APPM (Pure Water for the World) to support an initiative to build latrines for children at a school and to provide water filters in a remote village in Honduras.
A gender specific letrina with a hand wash station was installed at the La Maquina village, Danli Municipality, Honduras.
Our Club actively applies for Global Grants to benefit remote and needed communities, such as the Global Grant 2455851 "Water System and Community Restroom for Chocopampa Community" in Bolivia. The community of Chocopampa is in the Municipality of Calacoto. This GG was a collaborative effort between the Rotary Club Space Center, Rotary Club of La Paz Sur, Rotary Club of Norman, Rotary Club of Austin, Rotary District 5870, Rotary District 5890, and Rotary District 5770.
The restroom was implemented in the area of Chicachata, where there are an elementary School and the communal house of the community, where the people gather for meetings.

Refugees, Orphans and Widows.
For several years our Club and our Foundation have partnered with Love Shows Up (formerly Love for the Least). Love Shows Up brings hope to orphans, refugees and widows, mainly. This organization provides i.e. adult literacy for women, jobs skills such as sewing, embroidery, barbering & beauty, computer, English classes. They also provide eyeglasses for children and adults, group trauma care, etc. This organization currently serves in Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Kenya, Oman, Pakistan, South Sudan, Syria, Tasmania, and Turkey.
On February 13, 2023 our Club presented a donation check of $5,000 for Turkey Relief efforts for the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck southern and central regions on February 6, 2023, which killed over 50,000 people and displaced millions.

The International (changed to Rotary in Rotary Year 2010-11) Youth Exchange Program essentially began in Rotary Year 1985-86. In June 1986 the first students went to Cheltenham College (high school) in England. See History Page. Students learn a new language, discover another culture, and become global citizens. Our Club remains actively involved almost every year.
On April 20, 2026 our Club presented a donation check of $2,500 to Rotary District 5910 to benefit Outbound Exchange Student Abigail, daughter of our honorary member Richard Cockerham, Clear View HS Interact Advisor.

On March 3, 2025 our wonderful inbound RYE students Marianne from Germany and Mia from France, shared about their countries, their food -of course- and all their lovely experiences here in the United States, specially with their host family, Gay and Alan Wylie.
